KB5079452

Microsoft released cumulative update KB5079452 (Build 28020.1737) for Windows 11, version 26H1. Windows 11 Insider Preview build 28020.1737 – a build that belongs to the br_release development branch, is available to Windows Insider program participants on the Canary Channel.

Users of this channel will now receive updates for Windows 11, version 26H1 (Build 28020), which is activated based on Windows 11, Version 26H1 (Build 28000) using the Feature Enablement package KB5073122. An additional update Build 28020.1738 (KB5084491) is being rolled out for Canary Channel participants. It does not bring new features and is used to test the servicing pipeline of builds.

Installation via Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart is required to complete installation.

Builds released to the Canary Channel represent the latest platform changes at early development stages and are not tied to any specific Windows release. Features and functionality included in these builds may never ship in the final version, as Microsoft tries different concepts and gathers feedback. Features may change, be removed, or be replaced, and some may never become available outside the Windows Insider program. However, when these features are ready, they may appear in future Windows releases.

Many features in the Canary Channel are distributed using Control Feature Rollout technology. Initially they become available to a small group of insiders, and then their availability expands as feedback is received and analyzed to assess how they are perceived before becoming available to all participants of this channel. Some features under active development that we preview to insiders may not be fully localized. Localization will be completed as features are finalized.

If you notice localization issues in your language, please report them via the Feedback Hub app. Some features may first appear in Dev and Beta channels before appearing in the Canary Channel. To leave the Canary Channel, a clean installation of Windows 11 is required. Please remember that insiders cannot switch to a channel that receives builds with lower build numbers without performing a clean installation of Windows 11 due to technical requirements.

How the new features work:

Pen button mapping unification: In the pen settings page, Microsoft unified button mapping logic using InputHost.exe global hooks. Changes are stored as DWORD values under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Pen\Buttons, controlling click, double-click, and press-and-hold actions via the system’s pen service (PenService.dll).

Copilot key mirroring for pen: This option makes the pen’s end button launch the same application assigned to the Copilot key. The system reads the app identifier from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Copilot and reroutes the pen button event through ShellExecuteEx with SEE_MASK_IDLIST flag.

Feedback Hub Bluetooth category: Feedback Hub (Win+F) now includes a dedicated category for Bluetooth peripherals. It collects ETW traces (Microsoft-Windows-Feedback) and HCI logs, then uploads them using DiagTrack service to ceswatson.azurefd.net for telemetry analysis.
