Microsoft has released preview update KB5124010 (26300.9539, 26200.9539, 26100.9539) Preview for Windows 11, version 26H2. Note: update KB5124010 was released at once for three versions of Windows 11 – these are builds 26100.9539 (version 24H2), 26200.9539 (version 25H2), and 26300.9539 (version 26H2). Microsoft published the release notes for 24H2 and 25H2; there is no separate changelog for 26H2, the changes in it are the same.
- File Explorer – preview of files downloaded from the internet. The behavior of the preview pane with files downloaded from the internet has been changed. For HTML files, a Preview anyway button has appeared, which can be used to confirm the warning and open the preview. Other files, such as PDFs, are now shown automatically.
- File Explorer – remembering the Home page state. The File Explorer Home page remembers whether sections are collapsed or expanded, so the next time it opens the view remains the same.
- File Explorer – reliability of cloud file thumbnails and the details pane. Improved reliability of thumbnails for cloud files in the details pane. The pane itself has been reworked to make file properties easier to find and view.
- File Explorer – address bar fix. Fixed an issue where the contents of the address bar could be cleared when entering edit mode by clicking near its right edge.
- Emoji – Emoji 17.0 support. Added support for the Emoji 17.0 set with new symbols – among them a distorted face, a fight cloud, and a furry creature. The emoji panel opens with Windows + period (.).
- Emoji – updated appearance. Reworked the appearance of some existing emoji for consistency with other platforms: saluting face, face with peeking eye, goose, lotus, and kissing cat.
- Widgets – Tips widget. A Tips widget has appeared with short tips about Windows features. It is added to the widgets panel via Add widgets, and to the lock screen under Settings > Personalization > Lock screen.
- Personalization – desktop background improvements. Improved stability of the Personalization > Background page in Settings; added support for DIB files as a background image; changing images in slideshow mode works more reliably on newly created accounts; improved thumbnail quality when choosing a background under Personalization > Background; fixed the display of the background preview in Settings on monitors in portrait orientation; changing wallpaper is handled more reliably if it happens several times in a row; wallpaper slideshow now works with multiple desktops and no longer switches the theme back to a single image.
- Bluetooth – pop-up volume control for Classic Audio. During voice calls, when the volume is changed with the buttons on the Bluetooth headset itself (Classic Audio), the Windows pop-up volume control appears on screen showing the new level.
- Bluetooth – more accurate connection state display. The connection state is displayed more accurately for devices that have already disconnected from the computer.
- Bluetooth – stability of the Bluetooth & devices page. The Bluetooth & devices page in Settings works more stably when managing Bluetooth and audio devices.
- Bluetooth – radio module toggle fix. Fixed an issue where the Bluetooth radio module could be turned off while the toggle on the Bluetooth & devices page showed the opposite.
- Bluetooth – stability and compatibility of audio transmission. Improved stability and compatibility of audio transmission over Bluetooth.
- Bluetooth – compatibility with headset microphones. Improved compatibility with microphones of certain Bluetooth Classic Audio headsets.
- Bluetooth – fix for error 0x139. Fixed an error (code 0x139) that could cause a crash during audio playback over Bluetooth.
- Bluetooth – reliability and performance of LE Audio. Improved reliability and performance when working with LE Audio devices.
- Bluetooth – audio sharing. Audio sharing works more reliably.
- Accessibility – Open apps maximized setting. Added an Open apps maximized setting that automatically maximizes windows at launch. It saves an extra step for those who use Narrator or Magnifier, work in tablet mode, or simply prefer full-screen windows. It is enabled under Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects.
- Accessibility – navigation of Bluetooth quick settings. Navigation of the Bluetooth quick settings page with a keyboard, gamepad, and in Narrator has become more convenient.
- Magnifier – updated design on the taskbar. The icons on the toolbar have been brought in line with the Windows 11 visual style; padding and spacing between panel elements have been aligned; view modes, zoom controls, keyboard shortcuts, and the read-aloud function work the same as before.
- Settings – stability of the Printers & scanners page. The Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners page works more stably.
- Settings – version number of packaged apps in the list. Under Settings > Apps > Installed apps, the version number of packaged apps is now shown directly in the list – as has long been done for other programs.
- Settings – time format accounting. The time picker in Settings takes into account the selected time format when switching between 12- and 24-hour views. This applies, for example, to configuring the active hours and Night Light schedule.
- Settings – saving camera access. The Let multiple apps use your camera at the same time setting under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Camera is saved more reliably.
- Touchpad – additional gestures. Under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad, additional gestures have appeared for precision touchpads: one-finger scrolling – vertical scrolling by moving from the left or right edge of the touchpad; auto-scroll – content continues to scroll if during the gesture you move your fingers to the edge of the touchpad and do not lift them. Earlier, in the July update KB5101684, a scrolling and zooming speed setting as well as accelerated scrolling were added to this section.
- Copilot key – remapping. A setting has appeared that allows remapping the Copilot key to right Ctrl or the context menu key. This preserves familiar keyboard shortcuts and accessibility scenarios.
- Photo backup – Camera Roll in OneDrive. Backup of the Camera Roll to OneDrive has appeared in Settings. The feature is enabled on the Settings home page or under Accounts, and setup is completed on a smartphone via a QR code. Availability depends on the device and region.
- Fonts – support for Garay and Beria Erfe scripts in Ebrima. Support for the Garay and Beria Erfe scripts has been added to the Ebrima font – this is Microsoft's first font supporting both. Garay is included in Unicode 16.0, Beria Erfe in Unicode 17.0.
- Fonts – updated glyph design for Adlam. The glyph design for Adlam in the same font has been reworked to comply with the current Unicode standard.
- Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) – use of saved Wi-Fi profiles. The recovery environment can now use Wi-Fi profiles already saved in Windows on its own, including supported networks with certificate-based authentication. The device can now get online during recovery – for example, during Quick Recovery or cloud reinstall – without pre-configuring Wi-Fi in WinRE. The capability is enabled by default; an administrator can disable it.
- Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) – remote management plug-in. A recovery remote management plug-in has been added, expanding WinRE management capabilities for mobile device management (MDM) systems.
- Kiosk mode – disabled keyboard shortcuts. The Windows + Tab shortcut is disabled in kiosk mode with a restricted interface; the Windows + A and Windows + C shortcuts are disabled in single-app kiosk mode.
- Windows Backup – PC-to-PC Migration data transfer. The PC-to-PC Migration feature is no longer available. It was rolled out gradually and allowed files and settings to be transferred from an old PC when setting up a new one. To transfer files, settings, and other supported data to a new computer, Windows Backup is now used.
If you installed previous updates, only the new updates contained in this package will be downloaded and installed.
Installation via Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart will be required to complete the installation.
