Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5124192 (Build 28120.3151) for Windows 11, version 26H1, for Insiders on the Experimental channel. The update adds fine-tuned zoom control to Magnifier, extends Cloud rebuild recovery with drive sanitization and remote launch, and fixes File Explorer behavior when renaming files and working with the address bar. The changes are rolling out to Insiders gradually, so they will not appear for everyone at the same time.
What's new in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28120.3151 Experimental (26H1):
- Precise zoom in Magnifier. You can now enter the exact magnification percentage directly in the Magnifier toolbar.
- Preset zoom steps in Magnifier. In the Magnifier settings, the Zoom in list now offers preset values: 5%, 10%, 25%, 50%, 100% (default), 150%, 200%, and 400%. This lets you jump to familiar values with a single click.
- Contrast theme in Magnifier. The same menu in this build has one more item that is not translated into Russian. It is a toggle: it instantly turns on the system contrast theme High Contrast Black, the same one available under Accessibility > Contrast themes. The appearance of the whole system changes immediately, without going to Settings and without a restart.
- Drive sanitization in Cloud rebuild. Cloud rebuild fully reinstalls Windows 11 and brings the computer to a clean working state. You can now sanitize the device's drives during the reinstall. When you start recovery in WinRE, two options are available: Remove files, if the computer stays with you, and Remove & sanitize, before disposal, return, or handing the device to another employee. The second option uses the drive's hardware capabilities to permanently erase data before Windows is reinstalled, and it cannot be undone.
- Remote launch of Cloud rebuild. IT administrators can configure and launch Cloud rebuild remotely through the Recovery CSP: on the currently installed build or on a specified target build.
- Folder view settings in File Explorer. Sort order and icon size are now saved consistently regardless of how a folder is opened and across different apps.
- File Explorer address bar. It now understands paths with double backslashes and paths in quotation marks, for example C:\Users\user.
- Address bar suggestions. The suggestions dropdown now closes more reliably after an item is selected.
- Renaming in File Explorer. Fixed an issue where text was selected again when renaming items in a folder. Also fixed an issue where a name change consisting only of letter case was not immediately shown in the file list, both in local and in cloud storage.
Known issues are not listed in the build description. From observation: the changes are rolling out in stages, and on a test computer with build 28120.3151 there is no separate Cloud rebuild item in the recovery environment, while the drive sanitization options there belong to the regular reset of the computer to its original state.
How to install the update through Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A restart of the computer is required to complete the installation.
