Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5127753 (Build 26340.9616) for Windows 11, version 26H2, for Insiders in the Experimental channel.
The update brings a new Windows Search built on WinUI 3 with actions right in the results, a battery status widget, the Kerberos IAKerb extension enabled by default, and expanded process grouping in Task Manager. The changes are rolling out to Insiders gradually, so they will not appear for everyone at the same time.
- New Windows Search. The rollout of a new search interface built on WinUI 3 is beginning: it is faster, more efficient, and has a simplified design that makes results easier to browse.
- Actions in search results. Right from search you can turn on dark mode or Bluetooth, change the screen brightness, mute the device, or arrange windows.
- Improved query understanding. Query understanding has been improved, including matching of typos and synonyms. Further refinements will continue in the coming weeks.
- Known search limitations. The first release supports only English. After updating to this build, the device must be restarted, otherwise the new search feature flag will not appear.
- Battery Status widget. The widget gathers the charge levels of the computer and connected devices in one place, so you don't have to look for this information in different parts of the interface. It is added via Widgets board > Add widgets > Battery status.
- Kerberos IAKerb. The extension is enabled by default in client Windows. It allows Windows authentication to succeed where regular Kerberos is not applicable because there is no direct connection to the domain controller, and it reduces dependence on NTLM.
- Process grouping in Task Manager. Apps can combine separate background processes into a single category instead of the familiar parent – child tree, which makes an app's resource usage clearer. Microsoft Defender is the first to use this capability.
- Windows Update. Fixed error 0x80073712 when installing the latest updates for Insiders with Windows Sandbox enabled.
- Security. The security key PIN entry has been reworked: the Other user icon has been removed from the screen.
- Taskbar. Fixed a slowdown of app window thumbnails on the taskbar that grew worse over time.
- Settings. Removed the backplate behind the Settings icon when a User Account Control prompt is launched from the app itself.
- File Explorer. Added font preview and installation from the context menu of File Explorer and the desktop.
- Other fixes. Fixed an error in msmpeg2ac3dec.dll that caused some apps and games to crash.
The same new search arrived at the same time in the Experimental (26H1) channel in build 28120.3181. The fix for the error in msmpeg2ac3dec.dll was also included in build 26220.9606 in the Beta channel.
To install the update through Windows Update, go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart will be required to complete the installation.
