KB5095058

Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5095058 (Build 26300.8697) for Windows 11, version 26H2 for insiders on the Experimental channel.

Features and capabilities included in these builds may never make it to the final release — Microsoft is trying out different concepts and collecting feedback. Features may change, be removed, or replaced and may not go beyond the Windows Insider program. Some of them may appear in future versions of Windows when they are fully ready.

Installation via Windows Update: Go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A system restart is required to complete the installation.

How the new features work:

File Explorer. The visual consistency and reliability of the copy dialog in dark theme have been improved, including its opening and expanded view with a progress indicator. The UI element rendering mechanism was refined to correctly inherit system brushes and theme resources, while asynchronous progress indicator update threads now reliably synchronize with the I/O completion queue dispatcher, preventing user interface freezes.

Start menu. Improved reliability of displaying newly installed or removed applications in the Start menu without the need to log out or restart. The application list cache is now immediately invalidated upon receiving a system broadcast notification about package registration or removal, bypassing the background task manager timeout and ensuring instant tile and entry updates based on events from the StateRepository service.

Taskbar. Fixed an issue for insiders using the new smaller Taskbar variant, where the system tray could be cut off or go off screen. The coordinate calculation logic for tray flyout windows was revised to forcibly account for the current DPI scaling factor and the monitor's work area rectangle, eliminating geometry buffer overflow during expansion animations.

Settings. Improved reliability of the Settings > Apps > Startup section. The extensible control panel node handler now uses an atomic model to retrieve startup extension data directly from the registry hives HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and the Task Scheduler store, eliminating double-free memory errors during concurrent access by the background scanner.

Virtualization. Fixed an issue where after installing the latest builds, system crashes could occur with errors HYPERVISOR_ERROR (0x20001) and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) during reboots, virtual machine operations, or while running certain games. The root cause was improper handling of hypervisor intercepts in the Vid.sys driver, leading to a state race in the synthetic interrupt scheduler when exiting nested virtualization.
