Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5095025 for Windows 11 version 26H1, intended for participants of the Insider program on the Beta channel. The build updates to number 28020.2298. The patch contains a new feature to reduce eye strain during prolonged computer work, as well as an improvement in the system utility Task Scheduler.
- Screen Color Tint. A new accessibility feature has been added that overlays a selected color layer onto the entire display image, softening its intensity. The feature is designed to reduce eye fatigue and heightened sensitivity caused by bright and saturated screens by the end of the workday. The setting can be adjusted in Settings > Accessibility under the Vision section. Users can choose one of six preset colors or create a custom shade, as well as adjust the overlay intensity using a slider from light to full effect.
- Clarification of differences from Night Light. The Night Light feature makes the color temperature of the image warmer, reducing the share of blue light, which can disrupt sleep. Screen Color Tint, in contrast, reduces the overall intensity of the picture, decreasing daytime eye fatigue and light sensitivity. Both features address different needs and can be used simultaneously: Night Light adjusts warmth, while Screen Color Tint controls overall image intensity.
- Interaction with Color Filters. Enabling Screen Color Tint automatically disables active Color Filters, and vice versa. If you regularly use Color Filters, you will need to keep Screen Color Tint turned off to maintain their function.
- Task Scheduler Settings Retention. Task Scheduler now remembers user settings for column width in the task list view and restores them between sessions. Previously, column width would reset to default values each time the snap-in was closed.
At the time of build 28020.2298 release, no specific issues for this version have been recorded; however, common Beta channel bugs may occur, including File Explorer instability when using widgets and possible window animation glitches when switching between virtual desktops.
To install the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. After downloading and applying the package, a mandatory computer restart is required. The build number after a successful update will change from Windows 11 Build 28000.1 to 28020.2298.
| Feature / Change | Performance Increase/Decrease | Optimization | PC Speed | Gaming Optimization |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screen Color Tint (new accessibility overlay) | ⚪ No direct impact (cosmetic GPU overlay, negligible load) | 🟢 Low: reduces eye fatigue via image intensity control; 6 presets + custom color with intensity slider | ⚪ No measurable change | ⚪ Not applicable (may reduce glare during long sessions) |
| Clarification: Screen Color Tint vs. Night Light | ⚪ No impact (informational differentiation) | 🟢 Medium: clarifies distinct use cases — Night Light reduces blue light, Tint reduces overall intensity; can be combined | ⚪ No change | ⚪ Not applicable |
| Interaction: Color Filters auto-disable on Tint activation | ⚪ No performance impact | 🟡 Low: mutual exclusivity enforced automatically; prevents conflicts but requires manual toggling for Color Filter users | ⚪ No change | ⚪ Not applicable |
| Task Scheduler: column width retention between sessions | ⚪ No performance impact | 🟢 Low: preserves user UI customization, eliminating repetitive manual resizing after each snap-in closure | ⚪ No change | ⚪ Not applicable |
Find and Change Settings
| Setting | Where to find | How to change |
|---|---|---|
| Screen Color Tint | Settings > Accessibility > Vision | Open Settings > Accessibility and locate Screen Color Tint under the Vision section. Select one of six preset colors or create a custom shade, then adjust the intensity slider from light to full effect. Turn the toggle on to apply the overlay or off to remove it. |
| Night Light and Screen Color Tint Interaction | Settings > Accessibility > Vision | Night Light reduces blue light by warming color temperature, while Screen Color Tint reduces overall image intensity. Both can be enabled simultaneously. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Vision to manage Screen Color Tint, and use Settings > System > Display > Night light to control Night Light. |
| Color Filters and Screen Color Tint Interaction | Settings > Accessibility > Color filters | Enabling Screen Color Tint automatically disables active Color Filters. To use Color Filters, keep Screen Color Tint turned off. Manage Color Filters in Settings > Accessibility > Color filters. |
| Task Scheduler Column Width Retention | Task Scheduler snap-in | Open Task Scheduler and adjust column widths in the task list view as desired. The widths are now remembered automatically and restored between sessions. No additional setting is required. |
