Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5074157 for Windows 11 Insider Program participants in the Beta channel. Users in this channel will now begin receiving updates for Windows 11 version 25H2, delivered via the enabling package KB5066383 (build 26220.xxx).
- Account settings. Microsoft is updating the design of dialog boxes in Settings > Accounts > Other users. This refresh is based on the modern WinUI platform and introduces dark theme support, providing a more consistent and clean appearance that matches the current Windows 11 interface. The Add account and Change account type dialogs have been updated. The new design makes windows visually simpler, improves readability, and correctly adapts to dark mode.
- Click to Do. Improved suggested prompts for Copilot inside the Click to Do feature. Prompts now load instantly without delays, making interaction with Copilot faster and more responsive. Note: this change is not yet available to Windows Insiders in the European Economic Area (EEA) and China.
- Desktop background image. Added the ability to use .webp format images as desktop wallpapers via Settings > Personalization > Background. WebP format support allows using more compact image files without noticeable quality loss, which is especially useful for modern displays.
Known issues in this update:
- Xbox optimizations for full-screen mode on PC. Some applications may behave unpredictably when using Xbox optimizations for full-screen mode (FSE), especially applications designed for a fixed window size or launching additional windows.
- Taskbar and system tray. Microsoft is investigating reports from some Insiders that applications that should appear in the system tray (notification area) do not appear.
- Display and graphics. New issue: Microsoft is working on a fix for a bug causing a small number of Insiders to see secondary monitors display incorrectly or show a black screen after installing recent updates.
- Click to Do. Microsoft continues working on a fix for a bug where the Microsoft 365 Copilot prompt field for selected images does not work if the Microsoft 365 Copilot application is not running.
To install the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A device restart is required to complete the installation.
This build also fixes numerous bugs: taskbar auto‑popup issue, memory leak in the Start menu, Settings app crashes when working with audio devices, Bluetooth device battery display problems, explorer.exe freezes on first login, as well as various issues with the lock screen, Notepad text, and MSIX package installation.
How the new features work:
Updated account dialogs: The "Add account" and "Change account type" dialogs use WinUI with XAML Islands, enabling hardware acceleration via Composition. Dark theme works through ThemeResource bindings. This improves responsiveness and visual consistency with modern Windows 11 controls.
Instant Click to Do prompts for Copilot: Prompts load synchronously from local cache or preloaded context, avoiding network delays. The mechanism uses background preparation via AI Explorer and precomputes possible actions. This eliminates display lag but is unavailable in certain regions due to data processing policies.
WebP desktop background support: explorer.exe supports WebP decoding through the Windows Imaging Component (WIC). The image converts to a Direct2D surface and scales without unpacking to raw bitmap, reducing memory usage and disk I/O when changing wallpapers.
