Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5095130 (build 26300.8772) for Windows Insiders on the Experimental channel. The update is intended for Windows 11 version 26H2 and contains a number of significant improvements related to system recovery, backup, as well as visual and functional interface enhancements.
- Cloud rebuild. A new recovery option that returns a Windows 11 PC to a clean original state by fully reinstalling the system, even when Windows fails to boot. Unlike the Reset this PC feature, Cloud rebuild downloads both the target Windows image and device drivers from Windows Update, so the PC is restored to a fully working state without a USB drive, without a custom image, and without dependence on the state of the installed system. The feature can be launched directly from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) by selecting Troubleshoot > Cloud rebuild, after first connecting to a wired Ethernet network or a Wi-Fi network from WinRE. Before starting the recovery, you must verify the target build, edition, and language of Windows and confirm the data loss warning.
- Default backup and restore for corporate devices. Starting with this version, the Windows settings backup and restore policy will be enabled by default on eligible Microsoft Entra-joined devices and hybrid Microsoft Entra-joined devices. Windows settings backup no longer requires prior configuration by an administrator — it becomes a baseline resilience level that automatically saves user settings and the Microsoft Store app list. This improves recovery predictability and reduces the time to resume work after reimaging or resetting a device. Administrators retain full control: existing policies still apply, explicit settings override the default value, and restore remains voluntary and managed by the administrator.
- Updated account management pane. The flyout pane received a modern design and a visible subscription icon so that account status is immediately visible. This helps quickly identify your plan, learn about available benefits, and consider upgrade options.
- Search improvements. The height of the search box on the taskbar has been increased by 4 pixels.
- Bluetooth settings navigation via gamepad. The Bluetooth quick settings page now supports navigation using a gamepad.
- Taskbar fix. Fixed an issue where the search icon could be invisible when the taskbar was in a vertical position.
- Accessibility improvements in the Run dialog. Improved keyboard focus narration for screen readers when using the new Run dialog design.
- Mongolian Baiti font improvement. Improved font shaping and rendering for more accurate and consistent text output, enhancing the quality of Mongolian script rendering.
No known issues have been recorded in this update. It is additionally reported that an issue where Outlook was unresponsive to the close button last week has been resolved, and resource consumption by tooltips in window title bars during prolonged work has been improved.
To install the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. A computer restart is required to complete the installation.
How the new features work:
Cloud rebuild. A recovery mechanism initiated from Windows RE that downloads a clean installation image and driver package directly from Windows Update servers, bypassing the need for local installation media or factory recovery partitions. The process mounts the downloaded WIM/ESD image to a virtual disk, applies it to the system volume, and injects the acquired drivers into the target offline registry, ensuring full hardware compatibility and build currency without dependency on a damaged current OS.
Default backup and restore for corporate devices. The user settings synchronization policy is now automatically activated at the client level upon successful device join to Microsoft Entra ID, including hybrid scenarios. The system serializes user preferences, including AppX package configurations and application manifests, into a cloud BLOB object. During profile reimport on a new or reset device, the restore agent merges this data with the current system state, respecting explicit Group Policy Object (GPO) values over default settings.
Updated account management pane. The flyout interface element is rebuilt using adaptive XAML containers integrated with Microsoft backend licensing services. The widget queries subscription status in real time via the Software Licensing Service client API, visualizing the active service plan. The subscription icon serves as an interactive pointer to the benefits catalog, where product SKU comparison logic highlights potential upgrade paths based on the current licensing profile.
Search improvements. The geometric height parameter of the SearchBox host element on the taskbar was adjusted by incrementing the Height property value by 4 device-independent pixels (DIP). This does not affect the runtime logic of the search indexer or queries to the synchronous background indexing service but solely corrects the bounding box of the touch and clickable input area to optimize visual ergonomics.
Bluetooth settings navigation via gamepad. Support for processing input from XInput-compatible devices has been added to the Bluetooth quick settings page, implementing focus-based navigation for controls. The system responds to emulated navigation keys from the gamepad, routing D-Pad and stick events through the UWP FocusManager infrastructure, allowing the focus rectangle to move between connection buttons and the paired devices list without requiring mouse or touchscreen interaction.
Taskbar fix. A race condition in the rendering pipeline of the taskbar's visual tree occurring in vertical orientation was resolved. Previously, a failure in calculating the alpha channel and clipping mask for the search icon caused it to become fully transparent. The fix ensures that the element layer's Opacity property is not set to zero after the layout animation completes during a monitor orientation switch to portrait mode.
Accessibility improvements in the Run dialog. The control template of the program launch dialog was updated for correct interaction with UI Automation providers used by screen readers. When using the modernized design, the text field and buttons now supply extended AutomationProperties.Name and HelpText properties, enabling the Narrator speech synthesizer to announce the current context and interactive element state as keyboard input focus changes.
Mongolian Baiti font improvement. The glyph tables and advanced OpenType typographic rules in the monbaiti.ttf font file responsible for contextual glyph substitution (GSUB) and positioning (GPOS) for traditional Mongolian script were updated. The Uniscribe/DirectWrite shaping engine, which interprets cursive character attachment rules, was enhanced to eliminate artifacts caused by incorrect selection of isolated, initial, medial, and final letter forms based on adjacent characters, improving vertically oriented text rendering.
