Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5083809 (Build 28020.1921) for Windows 11, version 26H1 for insiders on the Canary channel. Windows 11 Insider Preview build 28020.1921 is a build that belongs to the br_release development branch and is available to Windows Insider program participants on the Canary Channel.
The Experimental channel includes the latest Windows 11 preview builds with new features. Builds may have low stability and some issues, but they are intended for experienced users who want to try out new operating system features.
- Moving insiders to the new channel. Microsoft begins moving users from the Canary channel series 28000 to the new Experimental channel (26H1). Please note: release notes apply to Canary channel participants in the 28000 series. With the start of the transition to the updated Windows Insider program, all release notes for new builds will be published under the new channel names, although insiders on the Canary channel series 28000 may not yet be moved to the Experimental channel (26H1).
- Task Manager — NPU tracking. On PCs with an NPU, you can now track neural processor usage in more depth. New additional NPU and NPU Engine columns are available on the Processes, Users, and Details tabs. The Details tab also adds NPU Dedicated Memory and NPU Shared Memory columns, showing how workloads use neural processor resources. Additionally, if the GPU includes neural engines, they now appear on the Performance tab — providing a more complete picture of AI-related system activity.
- Task Manager — Isolation column. A new additional Isolation column has been added on the Processes and Details tabs. It shows which applications are running in AppContainer mode.
- Task Manager — CPU frequency fix. Fixed an issue with CPU frequency display on the Performance tab of Task Manager for virtual machines after exiting hibernation. Values no longer appear unexpectedly high and unrealistic.
- Adding columns in Task Manager. When the changes become available, any of the new columns can be added by right-clicking on the column header in Task Manager and selecting the desired item from the menu.
- Feedback Hub update — version 2.2604.301.0. Microsoft thanks Windows Insider program participants for their feedback on Feedback Hub operation and is rolling out an update. Overall reliability has been improved, and general design, accessibility, and localization have been refined.
- Feedback Hub — translation and language switching. In non-English versions, the Community Feedback section now allows switching to English. Collection titles and official responses are automatically translated into major languages.
- Feedback Hub — file limit increase. The file upload size limit when submitting feedback has been increased again to 500 MB. The accuracy of vote and comment counts on feedback has also been improved.
The update is installed via Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart is required to complete the installation.
| Feature / Change | Performance Increase / Decrease | Optimization | PC Speed Impact | Gaming Optimization |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moving insiders to the new Experimental channel (26H1) | ⚪ No direct impact (channel migration only) | 🟡 Low (infrastructure change, no runtime effect) | ⚪ No impact | ⚪ No impact |
| Task Manager — NPU tracking (new NPU, NPU Engine, NPU Dedicated Memory, NPU Shared Memory columns) | 🟡 Slight decrease (~0.1–0.3% CPU overhead when Task Manager is open and columns active) | 🟢 High (deeper insight into AI workload resource usage) | ⚪ No impact on overall PC speed | 🟢 Medium (helps monitor AI/neural engine load during AI-enhanced games) |
| Task Manager — Isolation column (AppContainer detection) | ⚪ Negligible (single column, minimal overhead) | 🟡 Medium (improves visibility into sandboxed processes) | ⚪ No impact | ⚪ No impact |
| Task Manager — CPU frequency fix after VM hibernation | ⚪ No performance impact (display fix only) | 🟡 Low (corrects misleading telemetry data) | ⚪ No impact | ⚪ No impact |
| Feedback Hub update — version 2.2604.301.0 | ⚪ No impact on system performance | 🟢 Medium (reliability and design refinements) | ⚪ No impact | ⚪ No impact |

Find and Change Settings
| Setting | Where to find | How to change |
|---|---|---|
| Windows Insider Channel (Canary to Experimental) | Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program | Microsoft is automatically moving users from the Canary channel (build series 28000) to the new Experimental channel (26H1). No manual action is required. Once the transition begins, release notes will be published under the new channel names. Insiders on the Canary channel series 28000 may remain on Canary until they are moved. |
| Task Manager NPU Tracking Columns | Task Manager > Processes tab / Users tab / Details tab / Performance tab | Open Task Manager. On the Processes, Users, or Details tabs, right-click the column header and select "NPU" or "NPU Engine" to add the columns. On the Details tab, also select "NPU Dedicated Memory" and "NPU Shared Memory". On the Performance tab, NPU usage for GPUs with neural engines appears automatically. |
| Task Manager Isolation Column | Task Manager > Processes tab / Details tab | Open Task Manager. Right-click the column header on the Processes or Details tab and select "Isolation" to add the column. It shows which applications are running in AppContainer mode. |
| Task Manager CPU Frequency Fix | Task Manager > Performance tab | No user action required. The issue with unrealistically high CPU frequency values on virtual machines after exiting hibernation is fixed automatically. |
| Feedback Hub Update (version 2.2604.301.0) | Feedback Hub app | Update the Feedback Hub app to version 2.2604.301.0 via Microsoft Store. The update improves reliability, design, accessibility, and localization automatically. |
| Feedback Hub Translation and Language Switching | Feedback Hub > Community Feedback section | In non-English versions, open the Community Feedback section. Use the option to switch to English. Collection titles and official responses are automatically translated into major languages. |
| Feedback Hub File Upload Limit | Feedback Hub > Submit feedback | The file upload size limit is now 500 MB. No manual setting change is needed; the limit is applied automatically when submitting feedback. |
