KB5083781

Microsoft released cumulative update KB5083781 (Build 26220.8283) for Windows 11 version 25H2 for Insiders on the Beta Channel. This update includes several improvements and fixes aimed at increasing system stability and supporting peripheral devices.

If you notice issues with diacritical mark positioning in the Times New Roman font, report it through the Feedback Hub under Desktop Environment > Font installation and preview — preferably with the specific Unicode character and a screenshot showing the expected position of the mark. It is also important to note that features and functionalities included in Beta Channel builds may never appear in the final release, as Microsoft actively tests different concepts and gathers feedback. Features may change, be removed, or be replaced and never leave the Windows Insider program. Some of them may appear in future versions of Windows when fully ready.

To install the update, go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart will be required to complete the installation.

How the new features work:

Printer drivers (Internet Protocol Print driver prnms012 – new HWIDs): During printer installation, Windows matches HWIDs to drivers. Adding new HWIDs for prnms012 lets the system recognize more IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) devices in advance. This prepares for a future priority change: when third‑party drivers reach end of servicing, the standard driver will be picked automatically by these IDs.

Start menu (improved click recognition on far left edge of taskbar): The clickable zone of the Start button is expanded logically, not just visually. With left‑aligned icons, the far‑left pixel of the taskbar is explicitly checked via the mouse coordinate handler (WM_NCHITTEST) returning HTSTARTMENU, preventing accidental triggering of other areas (e.g., hidden debug buttons or “Show Desktop”).

Group Policy Editor (fixed unexpected error when opening): The error was caused by a corrupted registry template cache (ADMX/ADML) or policy version conflicts in recent builds. The fix targets the GPEdit.dll parser — it now handles empty Category sections correctly and no longer crashes when required displayName attributes are missing, returning default values instead of exceptions.

Times New Roman font (updated with better combining diacritical marks): The font now contains correct glyphs for combining diacritical marks (U+0300–U+036F) for Greek and Cyrillic Unicode. The OpenType ccmp feature (Glyph Composition/Decomposition) ensures proper visual sequence: base character + diacritic appear as one composed character instead of overlaying — critical for linguistic texts.
