As part of the Windows 11 preliminary evaluation program for Beta channel participants, cumulative update KB5095092 has been released, raising the build number to 28020.2366. This build belongs to version 26H1 and contains several functional improvements aimed at expanding mobile device connectivity, enhancing recovery tools for enterprise users, and modernizing content input mechanisms. The main focus is on simplifying smartphone integration with the Windows ecosystem and updating multimedia sources in system interfaces.
- Mobile device settings. A new page for adding and managing mobile devices has appeared in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices. It allows you to configure the use of the device as a connected camera or access device files via File Explorer.
- Remote recovery management. A new remote recovery management plug-in has been added, expanding the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) management capabilities for MDM providers.
- Emoji and GIF panel update. The emoji panel, invoked by pressing the Windows key and period (.), now uses GIPHY as the GIF provider. This ensures a smoother browsing and sending of GIFs after the discontinuation of the Tenor API.
To install the update, you need to go to Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. The build will become available for download and installation, after which a computer restart is required to complete the process. This version is intended exclusively for insiders on the Beta channel testing the 26H1 branch.
How the new features work:
Mobile device settings. A new page for pairing and managing a smartphone has been added under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices. Functionally, it enables device registration as a connected camera for video streaming and provides access to the file system via File Explorer integration, using wireless data transfer protocols and file structure virtualization.
Remote recovery management. The remote administration infrastructure has been extended with a new plug-in for managing the WinRE recovery environment. This component allows MDM providers to remotely initiate recovery scenarios, apply configurations, and control the state of the pre-boot environment on targeted corporate devices through standardized CSP policy channels, minimizing physical intervention.
Emoji and GIF panel update. The insertion panel invoked by the Windows + . key combination has had its animated image search backend modified. Due to the discontinuation of the Tenor API, the GIPHY service has been integrated as the content provider. This ensures direct streaming and caching of graphic data within the selection interface without interrupting user input in the active application.
