Microsoft has released cumulative update KB5079492 for Windows 11, version 25H2 for Insiders on the Dev Channel – Windows 11 Insider Preview Quality Update (26300.8142). Dev Channel users will now receive Windows 11, version 25H2 updates, which are available using the enablement package KB5073032 (build 26300.xxx).
- Administrator protection. After resuming the rollout of the Administrator protection feature, previously available for enablement through IT administrators, Microsoft has added the ability to enable it directly in system settings. Users can now activate the feature via: Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security > Account protection, turning on the corresponding toggle. A device restart is required to apply the changes.
- Touchpad. Added a setting to adjust the size of the right-click area on the touchpad. The setting is available in: Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad. The user can choose the right-click zone size (lower right corner of the touchpad) from options: default, small, medium, or large. This setting is only available for touchpads with a physically pressable surface. On devices with proprietary manufacturer utilities, an additional Custom option may appear, preserving user settings. Feedback: you can send feedback via Feedback Hub (Win + F) under Input and Language > Touchpad.
- Task Manager. Microsoft has made several improvements to Task Manager. Added new columns for analyzing NPU (neural processing unit) operation on devices with AI support: NPU and NPU Engine – on the Processes, Users, and Details tabs; NPU Dedicated Memory and NPU Shared Memory – on the Details tab. The Performance tab now also displays neural engines built into the GPU, providing a more complete picture of AI workload performance. Added an Isolation column on the Processes and Details tabs, allowing you to identify which applications are running in an AppContainer isolation environment. New columns can be added via the table headers context menu in Task Manager.
- Windows Protected Print Mode. A new icon has been added in print settings, showing that the printer supports Windows Protected Print Mode.
Known issues: Dev Channel participants who want to be the first to receive features that are gradually rolled out can enable the Get the latest updates as soon as they are available toggle in Settings > Windows Update.
Over time, feature rollout will reach all participants who have the toggle turned on. If the toggle remains off, new features will arrive gradually as they become ready. Some accessibility features may temporarily not work with pre-release features such as Recall and Click to Do. Because the Dev and Beta channels represent parallel development paths, there are cases where some features and capabilities appear first in the Beta channel.
Installation via Windows Update: go to Settings > Windows Update and click Check for updates. A computer restart is required to complete installation.
The Windows Insider Program Dev Channel allows participants to test new features and capabilities based on Windows 11 version 25H2. Many features in the Dev Channel are rolled out using Control Feature Rollout technology. Initially, only some participants receive them, then rollout expands as feedback is analyzed and feature performance is evaluated. Features and capabilities that are included in Dev Channel builds may never appear in the final release, as Microsoft actively tests different concepts and gathers feedback.
Features may change, be removed, or be replaced and may not make it out of the Windows Insider Program. Some pre-release features may not be fully localized for all languages. Localization will improve gradually as feature development completes.
Use the Flight Hub app to get a complete view of builds available across different Windows Insider Program channels.
How the new features work:
Administrator protection: After enabling the feature in system settings, when an operation requiring elevated privileges is attempted, Windows requests confirmation via a secure desktop. Unlike standard UAC, the admin token is isolated, and access to critical resources is granted only after explicit approval in a protected environment, reducing privilege escalation risks.
Touchpad: The feature programmatically redefines the click zone in the lower right corner of the touchpad. The touchpad driver receives a right-click area parameter (default, small, medium, large) from the system and converts physical touch coordinates into a logical right‑click event if coordinates fall within that zone.
Task Manager: Task Manager queries the NPU driver via Windows APIs (WMI and DirectML) for the status of compute engines. NPU and NPU Engine show tensor core load, while NPU Dedicated/Shared Memory shows dedicated and GPU‑shared memory usage. The Isolation column reads AppContainer attributes from the process token.
Windows Protected Print Mode: An icon in print settings indicates the printer supports a mode where third‑party drivers are unused. Printing uses standard IPP Everywhere or Mopria, and page rendering is done by the isolated system process PrintFilterPipelineSvc.exe, preventing vendor code from running in kernel mode.
